Crawford is uniquely positioned. In that, it is diverse or at very least proud and encouraging of this diversity and a stable relatively wealthy school. The result of this is intersecting streams of consciousness or ideas from the student body. It is this student sentiment and its acceptance by the structures of the School that embodies Crawford College Sandton. The SRC is one such structure specifically designed to do twofold . Firstly to articulate the ideas of the student body so that secondly the aforementioned ideas can be translated into viable practice presented to the school. The SRC must thus be present and open for the student. This extends the role of the SRCj, it must not merely wait for fires to burn (problems to solve) but be active in mitigation of these problems. It must create conditions that allow the flow of student sentiment to avoid a build-up of frustration at the system and a loss of confidence in itself. More practically, with the above specifically in mind, I run for SRC on the following proposals: I. I believe that representation of the student body by the SRC can be further enhanced so that the SRC can act as an agent to better firstly unite and furthermore incorporate the student body into the school. Simply the average student should have better access to the SRC and regular updates to the progress of the SRC (a segment at assembly, an ecosystem of WhatsApp groups, open meetings, etc.) II. This principle forms the basis of a proposal for a specialised portfolio that measures student sentiment (through surveys, discussion ect.) ranging from issues such as the tuckshop to implementation of the syllabus (the manner in which it is taught and how students react to it). This allows the SRC to take active measures on behalf of students contextually and therefore far better. In other words, engaging with students to facilitate change. The plan of which is attached or available on request. III. A theoretical proposal that would streamline the SRC system and make the above portfolio and underlying principle of student body incorporation into the SRC more possible. The plan of which is also attached or available on request. As a candidate for the SRC, I am thus not merely prepared to state intent to serve the student body but prepared to face accountability if I do not. Furthermore, while such rhetoric is easily promised, I have concrete plans with real practical implementation possible if voted in for the school. These hopefully prove I can research, gauge sentiment and translate that into plans designed to actively and constructively make the school a better space for students. I am a swimmer in the school's team, have worked for the school in Tech-Crew in grades 8 and 9, have volunteered at the Fideltas Matric Dance and the Nicht and externally volunteer for community service. I am prepared to dedicate the year 2020 to bettering the school environment for the student body and will best be able to do so by committing to the SRC.
